MOMO FILM FESTIVAL GOES ONLINE -The Future of MoMo

Dear Dear community,A few months have passed since our last update where we had to let you know that MoMo 2020 had to be cancelled. Not an easy thing to announce.

During those months, we started thinking about how we can continue this labour of love. Creating a festival each year, with very limited resources, takes a lot of time, effort and perseverance.

Covid is still present and it's hard to start organising another festival without knowing if there will be another year of "sorry, MoMo has been cancelled". So we had this idea:

What if we held our festival online, instead?

And here's why:

It Will happen

No matter if Covid will still be making our lives difficult in the future, MoMo will be able to happen.

CHANGE OF ATTITUDE

Online film festivals used to be looked down on. But in the last few months we've seen a change of attitude. Filmmakers, as well as distributors, are seeing the benefits of online festivals and realise that it's time to accept the new reality.

FOSTER A SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY

Discovering films at home is part of our job, and a lot of those discoveries happen when we watch films online. Be it a link on Twitter, a Facebook group or a YouTube video. If a film can cast a spell when we're watching it at home, on our phone or laptop, then I believe it can do the same for anyone exploring an online festival.

OPEN TO ALL

For us it has always been important that our festival is open to everyone - from anywhere in the world. But the problem we faced was filmmakers or film lovers from further away usually weren't able to attend. Also, we didn't have enough funds to finance the filmmakers' travels.

With an online festival, finally everybody, no matter where you come from, how much money you have, or if you are disabled, have social anxiety, you can still discover new and fresh talent from home.

MORE INTIMATE Q&A

Filmmakers are saying they feel a greater intimacy taking questions on Zoom compared to a theatre “where you’re up on stage and maybe they’re in the back of the room. Online, you can really see their faces and expressions.” Don't you think it would be cool to ask a filmmaker a question while you're sitting comfortably in your living room, sipping a beer, your cat on your lap?

INNOVATION

We believe that with our online presence and active community, the possibilities of creativity and innovation will be endless for creating something unique.

ENVIRONMENT

Less people travelling also means we'll be able to become more environmentally friendly.

The online festival will take place in 2021. We're just about to start creating a new concept for this new adventure. We'll keep you posted!

Next to our online festival we'll still be offering our online FREE film school, our Youtube channel (which has been taking off in the last few weeks!) and our filmmaking blog.

Oh and we were asked to film Bligg's (a famous Swiss singer) next music video on our phones! So excited about that!! The shoot will be this September and the video will be released in October '20.

Wishing you a great summer and take care everyone, wherever you are in this world.
