CHRIS NZEKWE: Are you kidding me? 😳


REPORTER: Officially sir can we get to meet you ??


CHRIS NZEKWE: Sure,My name is Chris Nzekwe am the third in a family of five and I'm a writer, an actor and a producer.


REPORTER: Are you practicing entertainment professionally Already??


CHRIS NZEKWE: Yes. That's the life I chose and I'm proud of it.

REPORTER: How long have you been doing this sir??


CHRIS NZEKWE: Since 2015.


CHRIS NZEKWE: How has it been sir?


CHRIS NZEKWE: It's been quite an interesting journey so far. A bitter-sweet experience I must say. But in all, I'm grateful for how far I have come. It's been an amazing ride.


REPORTER: What has been the biggest challenge so far as a writer?


CHRIS NZEKWE: To start writing. Once I overcome this, I overcome anything else because it has not been too easy starting to write.


REPORTER: How do you generate stories? Simply put where do you draw the inspirations from ??


CHRIS NZEKWE: The truth is I am a box full of ideas. Inspirations come without even me trying. I think that's God at work in me.
Basically, my stories are influenced by people's realities and real life situations.


REPORTER: Do you feel the Nigerian writers are being celebrated rightly?


CHRIS NZEKWE: I feel Nigerian writers deserve better than whatever they are getting right now. They need to be appreciated more.


REPORTER : I was in a platform sometimes last year where a producer was requesting that a script be sold to him for 2,000 naira.are scripts really this cheap???


CHRIS NZEKWE: I once had a similar experience with a client some years back. He politely asked if I could write a script for him for same amount and I politely declined.In filmmaking, SCRIPT IS KING! As such, the creator of that king should be greatly honored. Good scripts are not cheap neither are good writers. We are king makers!


REPORTER: Who has the loudest voice to tell practioners this truth and they would listen????


CHRIS NZEKWE: Practitioners need no one to tell them for they know this truth. Writers must know their worth and act on it. Just as they wouldn't cheapen a Genevieve Nnaji as the actor, they shouldn't cheapen a Chris Nzekwe as the writer.When a writer recognizes his value, sets his standard and does not compromise it, practitioners would definitely listen.

CHRIS NZEKWE: The Nigerian movie sector has grown really big,who should take the glory,writers??


CHRIS NZEKWE: Everyone who has contributed to its success. But particularly I must commend our audience. The massive appreciation and support they give our films show we are doing something right thereby encouraging us to do more. Their criticisms puts us in check and motivates us to do better.


REPORTER: Isn't it worthy of note that the writers need a governing body to regulate and speak for under paid writers Unlike Nollywood for actors and DGN for directors??


CHRIS NZEKWE: I think there is a governing body but I don't now if it is functional. For me, I don't belong to any group or body. I know my worth and I am not underpaid. I have set my standards.

REPORTER:Mr Elijah Umanu,the CEO krystalTv once said on babajamz hangout with him that God-fatherism is a necessity in the movie industry,is this same with scripting department??

CHRIS NZEKWE: I may not fault his opinion but I feel as a scriptwriter, you must connect yourselves with filmmakers. As a scriptwriter, you don't make friends with scriptwriters. They won't give you the job. They need it just as you do. So find a way to connect with producers, directors, DPs... not scriptwriters. These days, social media makes them more available to connect with. It's not godfatherism, it is creating a relationship with someone who needs what you have. A good script needs no godfather to be sold but a godfather needs a good script to be told.


REPORTER: Your counsel to both professional and Amateur writers would be what sir??


CHRIS NZEKWE: Don't stop writing. The day you stop, you become an ex.
