WE ARE ENTERTAINERS, WE ARE RELEVANT IN SOCIETY. PART ONE.

Before the Babangida years, the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) was like any other entertainment organisation in Nigeria, groups you only recognise when you have a party, chiefaincy and other social activities. You got a show, you hire them and the lucky ones got their money in full. Royalties were something a singer dreams about. Then enter one fairly successful singer Tony Okoroji. He saw PMAN and it's members, not just singers and dancers but important members of society who should be given adequate respect. The doors of the Presidency and Governors' mansions were open to Tony Okoroji and PMAN Award night saw the birth of glitz and glamour in the Nigerian entertainment firmament. Like all things Nigeria success bred jealousy, accusations of embezzlement. All manner of clowns now aspired to be PMAN President. PMAN as a force went on involuntary hibernation. Comatose PMAN left a gap in respect for entertainers that really needs reviving. Shouldn't the Actors Guild of Nigeria step forward and do what PMAN failed to do, become an organisation given top most respect and honour in society?
