My name is WURAOLA ABIRU with the stage name "BESSIE-GOLD"...

 What kind of music do you do?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: Rap music... Mostly indigenous (Yoruba) but I also rap in English and I do code mixing


 How did it all started?


BESSIE-GOLD: Well, It started while I was in my primary sch... Sincerely music is what I do for fun back then, aside sports it has been my best hobby.. I remember when I was in primary 6 and it was my graduation day, I composed a Yoruba song for my mum and I touched it with a little rap.. Then in secondary school I focused more on sport as fun till I entered tertiary institutions.. I can say that was where the motivation came from.. I went for my .I.T after 2years in  Sch and that`s almost 4 years back.. and i'm always entertaining them with series of rap songs.. They all loved it then someone said to me.. "Wuraola u will go places with this talent" I chuckled and replied  "music is what I do for fun.. No expectations from it" but then it`s all became a reality.. I was invited to series of shows... And then proof.. It became a career...


So can you do music just for fun for 10 years from now without expecting any form of payment?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: I meant before 4 years back... Music has been just something I do for fun..
Now to me, music is my career.
 For 10 years from now or even beyond.. Music will always be a part of me.. Because it's something I enjoy doing.. Something I love, a way to communicate my feelings, experiences both mine and others and a way to pass a message to people.. Music is my career and each career I practice should pay my bills


 Is music what you studied in school as a COURSE?


BESSIE-GOLD: I can say yes and no to that.. Reason is because.. I studied mass communication and in my course of study, music is a body, a part and also a means of which we communicated to the heterogeneous public.. So yes I studied it as a part of my course and No, I did not study "music" as a course..


 As a lady,do you feel  inferior at anytime because guys thrive more and over the years it has been seem as an industry for male music creators?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: Well, let's say you are right but quality will always speak for you.. Irrespective of your gender..  I`m sorry to say but i`ve listened to many male rappers and I shake my head.. Not because I believe I am better but because I wondered how the person got to fame.. But then something came to my mind... Many are signed now but at the long run no one hears their songs anymore that's because music to some people is what they do to get famous and to catch fun.. But No.. Music is way beyond that.. Music should be felt and not just danced to.. If the quality is there.. Quality in lyrics, quality in styles and quality in production.. U will never experience an expiry except u gave up during the race... So I don't feel inferior being a female rather I feel motivated, inspired and proud to be able to do what d guys can do and even better at it..  So I feel inspired


 So what makes you stand out even amidst the guys in the industry today?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: My quality... My lyrics and the message it carries... Transparency..  By not just doing what is in vogue but what will be appreciated.. Not competing but working hard... I mean, the sky is too big for all birds to fly..


 How do you describe a good music?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: Good music cannot be described..  you will just know


Wow,that's a powerful perspective you know,At what point will you consider yourself a celebrity?


BESSIE-GOLD: Thanks sir, At a point when even a little child will listen to my rap music and say to the father..  "Dad, that is the song that inspired me".. That's being a celebrity.. When I touch souls with my words and not just sing for dance steps..  Sing to change a bad person's heart into doing good...
That's what I consider a celebrity.. That way I have been celebrated in the best way


 What are your biggest setbacks ?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: That's the corrupt mindset of those we look up to, those who are capable of helping without removing an hair from them " that thoughts of getting down with every female artist or persons that comes seeking for favor before you render help".... That is my setback..


 Have any one taken advantage of you to offer help?


BESSIE-GOLD: They tried... Although I would like to keep their names anonymous... But instead of it to weaken me, it made me stronger.. That way I wanna work harder to get there so I can eat on same tables with them and walk on same grounds and say to them... Without your help.. I still got here and smile in mockery... So its a motivation to me


Where do you draw your inspirations from?


BESSIE-GOLD: My mum...Growing up wasn't easy as she alone brought of five kids.. Th pains and experiences.. Her strength and hard work to train us till we get to this stages in life, those are my inspiration... It inspired me... She`s an iron lady..


 If a record label wishes to sign you up what values do you think you can add amidst existing colleagues?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: Everyone has a distinct styles... My different styles coupled with my inner quality and my perception of music and dreams of how I want music to be seen... Those will definitely stand me out from others..  I strongly believe💪


What else would you like to tell the world?


BESSIE-GOLD‬: To NEVER SAY NEVER... never let anyone put u down or make you think you
ain't worth it..  There is time for everyone... The sun and the moon shine at their time..
Never be desperate or compete with everyone... Quality don't compete with quantity..  The quality still stand out the quantity... Be yourself... Above all....
